Social Steps

(Socialisation at Play)

Our Social Steps Programme is designed to help children with ASD socialise in a play setting with their peers. This is a crucial step in their development to prepare them to interact on a daily basis with people in school and social environments. They will learn to build social skills that they can use for life.

Social Thinking®

(Socialisation at School)

Our Social Thinking® Programme has been specifically designed to support children with ASD who are struggling to cope in a mainstream school setting but who, with some extra support, will be able to adjust once they understand how to interact socially in expected settings.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Social Steps Programme

The Little Adventurers and Young Explorers programmes teach children appropriate play, conversational and socialisation skills to help them build long-lasting friendships with peers in the same age group.
We are delighted to be the first autism service provider in Singapore that is directly trained by Pamela Wolfberg, the founder of the award-winning social treatment program Integrated Play Groups® (IPG). We are officially listed as a provider of IPG®s (in training) in Asia. The standards of IPG® are upheld by the close supervision and consultation of Dr Wolfberg with our team of therapists.
It is universal knowledge that children love to play and that’s also how they learn. Play-time is key to unlocking important cognitive, language, and socialisation skills when effectively managed. Through play, we help your young child learn importance social skills that help them build relationships with their peers.
As your child grows, the building of relationships with their peers becomes important, particularly as they learn to interact with their primary-school mates. Social cures we take for granted are challenging for some autistic children to pick up and they need extra support that this programme gives to help them identify and act on social cues.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Social Thinking® Programme

A child with special needs may have good language and cognitive abilities. But they can still face difficulties adapting to new surroundings and interacting with others at school.

At ARN, we use the award-winning Social Thinking programme, which goes beyond the teaching of social skills to show children how the social mind works and how social behaviour influences the way people perceive them.

This programme is specifically designed for children who are otherwise doing well at school but are having difficulty socialising in their school environment.

With Social Thinking, your child will learn to build social competencies such as:

  • How their own social minds work – why they react and respond the way they do.
  • Behaviours that make others feel good and those that make others feel bad.
  • How their behaviours affect their own emotions and relationships with others across different social contexts in school.
Children who have graduated from our Social Thinking® programme are more likely to be able to:
  • recognise different levels of their own and others’ social minds;
  • manage their behaviours for more rewarding social outcomes while considering how others perceive and respond to them; and
  • adapt to people and situations around them, from formal to casual settings.
Social Thinking® is a curriculum developed by acclaimed author and Speech-Language Pathologist, Michelle Garcia Winner. It teaches your child to manage their behaviour for more rewarding social outcomes while considering how others, like their schoolteachers and fellow classmates, perceive and respond to them. It also helps them adapt to people and situations around them, from more structured settings during school lessons to more free-flow situations during recess.
Our Social Thinking® Programme is a therapeutic programme for school-going children who otherwise manage well at school but have difficulty socialising with their peers.
